BLAKE. — Simon F. Blake, 75, a resident of Bellaire since 1933 and postmaster there for 20 years, passed away Saturday evening at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 25, 1898, in Kearney Township, Antrim County. He was appointed postmaster in 1943 and retired from that position in 1963. Prior to that he had been a butcher at Richards' store in Bellaire and had previously resided for 21 years in Tampa, Fla. On Jan. 4, 1930, he was married in Charlevoix, to the former Velma Derenzy who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Keith F. Blake of Dearborn and George W. Blake of Gambrillis; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Bacon and Mrs. Malvern (Rosalie) Lewis of East Jordan; a brother, Clare Washburn, and a sister, Mrs. Lucile Hatch both of Flint; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Blake was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Postmasters Association, the Conservation Club of Bellaire and the Kearney Kommunity Klub. Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the Matthew Learned Funeral Home in Bellaire with Elder Vern Whiteford of the East Jordan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Interment will be made in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Memorials may be directed to the intensive care unit of the Travers City Osteopathic Hospital.
