CHARLES SUMNER HOUSTON IS DEAD

Member of One of This Community's Earliest Families Here All His Life

Charles Sumner Houston, 78, member of one of Riley county's earliest and best known families, died about 2 a. m. Sunday on the old Houston farm on U. S. 40N where he was born June 20, 1855. He was found dead in bed, supposedly a victim of a heart attack.

He was the son of Samuel D. and Tabitha Houston, who were among the earliest to settle in this community. His father also was instrumental in the establishing of the college here, and Houston street was named in his honor.

Mr. Houston, a bachelor, is survived by one brother, L. N. Houston, of Okmulgee, Okla., and two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Mastin of Miami, Okla., and Loella M. Houston of Denver, Colo.

Funeral services were scheduled for 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Ryan funeral home with Dr. C. E. Holman of the Methodist church in charge, and with interment in Sunset cemetery.
